Procedure for Nominating Honorary Appointments & Requesting Renewals
Principles & Procedure
- Nominations are invited on an annual basis from Heads of Academic Departments for Honorary Professors, Honorary Departmental Fellowships and Honorary Lectureships for submission to the Senate and Council following the circulation of an annual memo from the Department of Human Resources.
- The tenure of appointment to an honorary position is normally five years from the date of conferment.
New nominations
- All new nominations must include:
- an up to date curriculum vitae
- a statement of which category the nomination applies to
- a letter of recommendation by the Head of Department describing the anticipated contribution of the person to the work of the Department and the University.
- Recommendations and nominations for Honorary Departmental Fellowships and Honorary Lecturers should be submitted to the Department of Human Resources normally Friday 30 October 2009.
- Honorary Professorships All new Honorary Professorship nominations should include the information detailed above in 2.1 Nominations for new Honorary Professorships should be sent to the Vice-Chancellor in the first instance for consideration by the Personal Chairs and Readerships Sub-committee.
- All new nominations must include:
Renewal of appointments
- All requests to renew an honorary appointment should be accompanied by the information detailed in 2.1 Requests should be addressed to the Department of Human Resources for the consideration of Staffing Committee.
- Honorary Professorships All requests to renew an Honorary Professorship should be accompanied by the information detailed above in 2.1. and should be addressed to the Department of Human Resources for the consideration of Staffing Committee.
- Please note that where a request to renew an appointment is not received, the appointment will not automatically be renewed.
General guidelines
- Departments are reminded that the costs involved in bringing Honorary Professors, Honorary Fellows or Honorary Lecturers to Aberystwyth are borne by the departmental.
