Appeals Procedure
- Appeals are considered by an Appeals Committee which is a Committee of the Council.
- The membership of the Appeals Committee is as follows:
- One lay member of the Council drawn from a standing panel of three
- One Head of Department drawn from a standing panel of three
- One other member of the Senate drawn from a standing panel of three
- No member of the Staffing Committee shall be a member of the Appeals Committee. The Appeals Committee will have access to all material available to the Staffing Committee. The member of staff concerned has the right to appear before the Committee, accompanied if desired by a representative of the Aberystwyth UCU, or by a member of staff of his/her choice.
- The Appeal Committee shall also interview the Head of Department concerned and the Vice-Chancellor and Principal as Chair of the Staffing Committee.
- The Appeal Committee may:
- reject the appeal;
- uphold the appeal.
- Where the Appeal Committee upholds an appeal properly brought on the merits of the case, its decision shall be binding on the University.
- Where the Appeal Committee upholds an appeal in respect of an allegation of a defect in procedure, its findings shall be reported to Staffing Committee which shall take such steps as are necessary to ensure the applicant’s candidature is fairly and properly reviewed.
