Aberystwyth and Area

They say good things come in smaller packages, and that is certainly true of Aberystwyth. With a population of just 20,000 (including over 7,000 students), the town manages to offer you the cultural advantages you’d expect to find in a much larger city as well as  the friendly welcome usually associated with small local communities.

Aberystwyth is a wonderful destination for you because whatever your interests it will deliver a unique experience.  If you are an “outdoor-type” you will be thoroughly at home here with access to some of the stunning mountain bike trails and footpaths which criss-cross the whole of Wales – try mountain biking in Nant-yr-Arian or climbing to the summit of Mount Snowdon to be amazed by the spectacular views.

There is 1,200km of coastline including many “blue flag” beaches around Wales, so as you would expect water sports are popular activities for visitors; with fishing trips, windsurfing, waterskiing and snorkelling to name but a few.

Perhaps you prefer less energetic activities; how about a stroll along the beach? Or why not take a boat trip from Aberystwyth to discover the cardigan bay dolphins. If you are an art lover you will delight in the displays at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre or you can travel to the small market town of Machynlleth to visit the Modern Art Museum where work by the world famous Welsh artist, Kyffin Williams, is on display. Wales’ mystical past is illustrated by the abundance of castles scattered around the country; Caernarfon, Harlech, Conway, Beaumaris, Pembroke, etc. the list seems endless!

It's almost impossible to explain in words why Aberystwyth Univeristy is unique, but to get a taste of what you can expect just view these pictures.
