What are the benefits of joining Club Sporty?
Whether you are coming to get fit in the gym, or want to join a club, then your Sporty Card is your passport to cheaper prices and eligablility to join clubs and competitions. Listed below are the benefits of Club Sporty Membership that the Sports Centre and Student Union Athletic Office are currently offering:
- You are welcome to have free recreational use of the Sports Centre's facilities e.g.; the all weather pitch, badminton courts, basketball court, squash courts (pay for lights), dance studio, playing fields, cricket nets, tennis courts etc.
- You are welcome to take up your favourite sport, or join a new club - there are over 50 sports clubs here at Aber, full details of which you can find on Sports Freshers Day which is 27th September 2011 at the Cage (next to Sport & Exercise Science building). Join as many clubs as you like but get you SPORTY CARD first ......you wont be able to play sport for the Uni without it!
- Insurance cover for all the students members taking part in AU based sport or exercise sessions
- Aber is part of British Universities & Colleges Sports Association (BUCS) which has a range of high quality competitions and championships against other uni's in the UK, you need your Sporty Card to take part in these and any of the local leagues and friendly competitions
- All Sporty Card holders get great discounts to use any of the three gyms and free weights room, pool, exercise sessions, spin sessions...
How do I join?
Well, you can download the application form here, or pick one up at the Sports Centre, or come along to Fresher's Fayre during the first week of term - Sports Day is on Tuesday 27th September, so you will need your Sporty Card to join any of the clubs) or email sports@aber.ac.uk and we will send you one!
To make things a bit easier, we have now got an online payment system - https://payments.bis.aber.ac.uk/club_sporty/en/index.php
if you wish to pay for your membership, any Gold Cards or inductions. The system will allow you to select and pay for the items and you will then get an email confirming your order. You do not have to complete an application form for this. Your details will then be held on your Aber Card. However, if you do wish a plastic Sporty Card to show for joining Clubs etc, then please make sure that you drop off one passport photo to the Sports Centre when you get here - making sure that your name and email is clearly printed on the back. You can print off your email if you want and bring it along to the Sports Centre when you get here.
If you don't want to use the online system, please complete your application form and return it to the Sports Centre with you cheque or pay over the phone by card - 01970 621500.
You use your Aber Card to access the Sports Centre, and your Sporty Card for clubs where there is no swipe maching (please add passport photo if you want a Sporty Card, with your name clearly printed on the back). The address is on the left of this page, and if you are able to send your form back before the 16th September 2011, you will be able to take part in the Early Bird draw and get your year's membership for free!
Club Sporty Application Form 2011
Your membership details and any Gold Cards, will be held on your Aber Card, and you will need to bring this with you each time you come to the Sports Centre. If you will be taking part in any sports such as rugby or football, where there is no swipe facility, you will need to have an extra "Sporty Card" and we will need one passport photo to make this - please either send it in or drop it off at the Sports Centre when you arrive (name on the back!). Your "Sporty Card" will be ready for collection at Fresher's if you do this before the 20th September.
If you pay on line, you will get an email to confirm this, and all your membership details will be put on your Aber Card. Please phone 01970 621500 if you want any further information.
Fees
3-year card - £100
This is aimed at you sporty lot who know you are going to be dedicated to sport and exercise for the whole time you are at Uni. Pay once and don't worry about any price increase for the next 3 years! If you did this last year, then your card should be ready for you.
2-year Card - £71
If you enjoyed using the Sports Centre in your first year, here is the chance to buy your Sporty Card for the next 2 years, and save yourself a little bit of money.
1 Year - £40
One year of membership - simples!

Family Membership
The Family Membership card allows you, your partner or spouse, and any children under 19, that you have to join for £65 for one year.
If you are a single parent, you can add a child membership onto your sporty card for an additional £14.50

Gold Cards
Once you are a member, you can add a Gold Card to your membership, where you pay up front for access to your favourite area - and save money! Each Gold Membership is based on 1.5 visits per week, so if you are a regular sports person, swimmer, or exerciser, why not take advantage of this great package and save yourself some money (some people have been known to buy them to MAKE them come to the gym.....)
Don't forget, you can always update your membership with a Gold Cards at a later date. Simply log on to our online payment page here, or simply fill in the form and pay at reception.
