Financial arrangements 2009/10 :
Students abroad: financial arrangements from 2009/10 onwards
(N.B. subject to change if external rules – UK or EU – change)
1) Students going abroad are currently i.e. 2008/09 supported as follows:
(a) Erasmus work placement students: 250 Euros per month plus salary from host school
(b) Erasmus study placement students: 245 Euros per month
(c) Non Erasmus students: no grant from Erasmus
2) In addition to the above, Erasmus students (work and study placement) already receive:
(d) Exemption of fee (for full year students only)
(e) Grant from state (if eligible)
(f) Loans (if required)
(g) Excellence Bursary (if eligible)
3) As of 2009 (students going abroad September 2009), the Aberystwyth Bursary rules of eligibility are to be extended to include full year Erasmus students even though the students themselves are fee exempt, in recognition of the extra costs involved. This arrangement is predicated on the full variable fee being paid to participating institutions by HEFCW. The arrangement will be reviewed annually in this light. For the Aberystwyth Bursary (means-tested and worth up to £1,000 per annum), see http://www.aber.ac.uk/en/scholarships/aber-bursaries/. An Aberystwyth Bursary can be held at the same time as an Excellence Bursary.
4) Erasmus students are in a good position to perform “ambassadorial” roles to support the university in recruiting EU students. The International Recruitment and Collaboration section will fund approved activity as part of an agreed marketing plan, as well as providing appropriate training and support.
5) Financial support will be made available from the fee income to support students (both UK and EU non UK) who may be ineligible for the Aberystwyth bursary. This scheme to be administered by the Student Support office.
6) A small number of students may not qualify or apply for Erasmus support but are still on approved study abroad schemes. This category of student will pay 50% of the full variable fee but will be eligible for the full Aberystwyth Bursary on the same means tested basis.
